Hi all,

Chad from Obstacle Racing Media led a great #OCRChat yesterday on the TV show American Ninja Warrior, and its influence on our sport. We're seeing more grip-related obstacles, frequently suspended over water and such.

I know not everyone is a fan of these. I'm sort of one of those people, but mostly from the standpoint that I just know I need to work on my grip strength! :)

How about you guys? Do you like these obstacles? Do you have training techniques to practice this stuff? Share!

Jamie

I'm with you on the grip strength.

I like watching the shows on television, but I don't have the urge to participate in a whole course of them. However, I like the challenges that some of the obstacles bring to the OCR. They definitely challenge me to do more strength workouts.

I have to admit there's a part of me that really wants to give that thing a try. But maybe not on TV... :)

There is a race series that sort of emulates this model called the Alpha Warrior (short race, just going from obstacle to obstacle so cardio endurance isn't quite the issue so much as muscular endurance). I know it had some financial trouble for a while, not sure what its status is right now. According to its website they don't have any events planned right now. Anyone know anything about this race?
